Effectiveness of Domain Names
One last thing to remember when you’re trying to spread information about your company is the effectiveness of a memorable domain name. When people easily find your website you’ll want to make sure that your home page content is dynamic so they keep returning. You want to pick a domain name that is:
- easy to remember
- easy to spell
- relates to what you’re selling
You might ask: “Henree, you kick start Mr Henree Dot Com with your own nick name (I call it my commercial name
), is there any catch behind?” In fact, I’m just in the process of branding myself. It’s important to create trust and establish credibility. Hence, it would be easy for me to develop products or sell others people product under my recommendation. I guess that’s what marketers want in return?
However, John Chow has discussed an issue on “Should You Use Your Name As The Domain Name“. Here is what he mentioned regarding this issue:
- It could be harder to brand the name
- It’s next impossible to sell
- You have to do most of the work
- Use trade names for commercial blogs
My Two Cents
I personally think that it’s a must to get your own name as domain name first to tell people your main interest, your expertise, or your daily lifestyle(my 3rd choice). Then, you might want to make your other sites/mini sites with the keywords you are looking for ranking purpose in Google and put a footnote, author by “YourName.com”, perhaps? Shoot me if you have your own ideas!
In fact, my name has been registered. I was looking for HenryTang.com. This is sad case, I do admire you guys with your own name as domain name. Go for it, it’s just 9.95USD to secure your own name as domain name, why not? I recommends GoDaddy with it’s word class customer services.
